These Minimum Wage Rates Increase July 1

Effective July 1, 2017, Maryland, Oregon, and the District of Columbia will increase their minimum wage rates.

The state of Maryland will change its minimum wage rate from $8.75 an hour to $9.25 an hour effective July 1, 2017. It will change again July 1, 2018, to $10.10 an hour. Additionally, Montgomery County’s minimum wage changes to $11.50 on July 1 of this year as well. The state of Oregon will also change its minimum wage starting July 1, 2017. In addition to a standard minimum wage, which will change from $9.75 per hour to $10.25, a different rate applies employers located in Portland Metro. That rate will change from $9.75 per hour to $11.25 an hour. Finally, a third rate applies within certain nonurban counties and will change from $9.50 per hour to $10.00 an hour. The District of Columbia will change its minimum wage rate to $12.50 an hour, up from $11.50 per hour, effective July 1, 2017. The minimum wage will increase in subsequent years and eventually to $15.00 per hour on July 1, 2020. Future increases will then be based on the Consumer Price Index.
