Adjust Your Payroll Schedule for These 2018 Banking Holidays

December 27, 2017|

There are eleven federal banking holidays in 2018 that may interfere with your usual payroll processing schedule for the year. Now is a fitting time to set reminders for your payroll processing days and check dates for the year.

The chart below lists the date of the holiday per the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, and payroll processing and check dates according to the following assumptions:

  • Your regularly scheduled check date falls on the holiday (or the day after in the case of Thanksgiving)
  • You would like to pay your employees the previous business day
  • You have a two-day processing timeline

If your regularly scheduled check date falls one or two days immediately following the banking holiday, your processing day will also be affected, and you will most likely need to move up your payroll processing date by an extra business day.

Visit the Federal Reserve Holidays Observed site to see a list of banking holidays through 2021. Download and print our 2018 payroll calendar and customize it with your processing days and check dates.
