The 2024 EEO-1 reporting season is officially open. As of May 20, 2025, eligible employers can begin submitting their 2024 EEO-1 Component 1 reports through the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC) online filing system. This year’s submission window closes on June 24, 2025—a shorter filing period than in previous years.

Who Needs to Complete 2024 EEO-1 Reporting?

EEO-1 Component 1 reporting 2024 is required for:

  • Private employers with 100 or more employees
  • Federal contractors and subcontractors with 50 or more employees that meet specific contract criteria

Although Executive Order 11246—previously linked to this filing requirement—was revoked, existing federal regulations still require covered contractors to file the 2024 EEO-1 report.

What’s New in the 2024 EEO-1 Report?

The EEOC’s updated Instruction Booklet outlines several changes for the current reporting cycle, including:

  • Non-Binary Gender Reporting Removed
Employers must now report employee sex as either male or female. The option to identify non-binary employees in a comments section, which existed in prior years, is no longer available.
  • Safe Harbor Language Removed
References to the “Notice of Failure to File” and associated safe harbor provisions have been taken out of this year’s guidance. While it’s unclear how this will impact enforcement, it may signal a shift in the EEOC’s approach to noncompliance.

Key Action Steps for Employers
