Deadline for EEO-1 Report Extended to September 30, 2019

September 3, 2019|

In April, a federal judge accepted a proposal from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to extend the EEO-1 Component 2 reporting deadline to September 30, 2019. The EEO-1, also known as The Employer Information Report, is an annual report required of employers who have at least 100 employees, excluding public schools, universities, state and local governments, certain tribes and tax-exempt clubs. Certain federal contractors with 50 or more employees and $50,000 in contracts also must file EEO-1.

The EEO-1 Component 1 report includes employee job categories, race, ethnicity, and gender and was due May 31, 2019, for the year 2018. Created by the EEOC in 2016, the Component 2 report includes hours and pay data on employees across those same categories. However, in 2017, the White House Office of Management and Budget postponed the EEO-1 Component 2 reporting requirement. In March 2019, it was reinstated by a federal judge making this year’s report a snapshot of 2017 and 2018.

Since 1966, the EEOC and the Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs have used the data collected via EEO-1 for a variety of purposes such as civil rights enforcement and to understand women and minority employment patterns.

It was announced on August 15 that the file upload function in the online filing system for the EEO-1 Component 2 was available. For more information on the EEO-1 report, visit the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s EEO Reports / Surveys page.
